Wow! What a way to finish our half term!

To mark the monumental achievement of the Queen’s platinum jubilee, Fulwell Junior school went off with a bang!

The whole day was filled with excitement!

We started the day coming dressed in our red, white and blue and learnt all about Queen Elizabeth’s reign and what she has achieved in the past 70 years. We even had a go at seeing what we could achieve in just 70 seconds!

We then looked at what life in Fulwell was like back in the 1950’s with a big quiz, looking at old photos as well as watching a video from our recent visit to Glenholme House where some of our children were able to talk to four lovely ladies who saw the coronation and have seen the huge changes in the past 70 years.

At lunchtime, children were treated to a special jubilee lunch and a range of vintage games to play on the yard. We then had a good, old sing song outside with ‘When you’re smiling!’

Not only that but all the children were able to visit our ‘Memorabilia Gallery’ which was filled with artefacts from the Queen’s reign including coronation books, street party photos and even newspapers from the day the Queen was coronated as well as when her father, King George VI died.

Thank you to all of you from the Fulwell community who kindly loaned us these items for the event.

We hope to invite parents, grandparents and other family members into school to have a browse through our gallery too so please look out for more information regarding this.

If that wasn’t enough, all children were kindly gifted a platinum jubilee coin from the school to treasure forever.

Check out the photos of our day below.
